Matrimonial & Family
We specialise in the Law relating to personal relationships which means Divorce, Civil Partnership and Pre-Nuptial Agreements.
Our family solicitors are members of Resolution (previously know as the Solicitors Family Law Association). This is a specialist organisation which commits lawyers to resolving disputes in a non confrontational way. We support these aims and try and deal with disputes in a constructive way which preserves dignity and encourages agreement.
Recognising that any dispute within a personal relationship creates anxiety, we try and make a visit to our office as painless as we can. Whilst we can do very little about the advice we give which is based upon the law and the evidence, we can try and reduce tension and distress by creating a welcoming atmosphere. You will not wait in a communal area but will be taken immediately to a private consulting room. There is a powder room for the exclusive use of our clients so that you can freshen up before you leave.

We specialise in all matters arising from the breakdown of a relationship between both married and unmarried couples. This includes, financial claims, arrangements in respect of children, ensuring that agreements are properly recorded and legally binding, Deeds of Separation, divorce and judicial separation, civil partnerships, care proceedings, domestic violence problems.
We work closely with other Departments within the firm to ensure that you are provided with comprehensive advice. We have a specialist Probate Team to advise on tax planning and wills. The expertise of both our Civil and Family Solicitors are combined when dealing with special legal issues raised by cases including unmarried couples.
Your First Appointment With Us
You can have an initial appointment at a reduced rate as we appreciate that you may not have decided how far to take things or know what your options are. Your first appointment will last approximately 45 minutes-1 hour during which we will explain exactly how you stand in law and, more importantly, give you some guidance on the way forward. If further appointments are then needed we will agree a budget with you so that there are no nasty surprises further down the line. You will be kept fully appraised of developments and, just as importantly, costs. You will be in complete control under our guidance and support
Legal Aid
If you would like to consider legal aid, one of our family PA’s will take some details so that we can calculate whether you qualify.
Cohabitation and Civil Partnership
Normal Matrimonial Law does not cover unmarried couples, particularly those of the same sex. Therefore, we have brought together lawyers from different departments of the practice into a special unit to help with legal issues arising in these situations. See our Cohabitation page for more details.
